Premium convolution plugins offer this facility but free options have been harder to find. Deconvolver from Voxengo is an inexpensive plugin which does have a demo feature but is Windows only. For Mac users the most common choice has been the IR Utility which ships with Logic Pro. The well known free convolution VST reverb. Convolution reverb is a processing plugin that need an impulse response file. Impulse response is the response of a dynamic system when this system is feeded with an impulse. This gives (an approximation of) the transfer function of the system, the system can be a reverb unit, an open space, a room.

A convolution reverb takes a sample from a real-world space (called an impulse response or IR) and uses this to digitally simulate the reverberation of that space. 'Only a convolution reverb can capture the ambience of a real space, or real hardware, and recreate it on a computer,' explains Ableton sound designer Christian Kleine. 'With a convolution reverb, you can easily access the reverb of many spaces, and still tweak them.'
Convolution Reverb Pro allows for extended tweaking options such as EQ, damping, modulation, and more. 'The reverse function in Convolution Reverb Pro is especially nice,' says Christian. 'You can modify an original IR to something completely new, and then resave the design as a new preset.' Convolution Reverb Pro also allows for combining two IRs—one for early reflections, and one for late—for a hybrid sound that combines elements of multiple spaces.
Convolution Reverb also includes a utility for creating your own reverb spaces. The IR Measurement Tool device facilitates the creation of personal IRs. Use it to get a perfect sample from your own hardware or just drag and drop an audio file into the Convolution Reverb device. You don't even need to stick to reverberant spaces. Experiment with a variety of sounds and explore new spaces.
Made in collaboration with Alex Harker at Huddersfield University, Convolution Reverb offers zero latency for a lush, natural sound. It also includes over 200 IRs from professional acousticians, featuring spaces from around the world, vintage hardware, experimental sounds, and more. Christian Kleine also contributed IRs from his personal collection of rare instruments and effects, including the Stocktronics RX-4000, Uniton Swissecho 2000, Farfisa Spring Reverb, BOSS RX-100 and more.
Along with the Convolution Reverb device, this product also includes Convolution Reverb Pro and the IR Measurement Tool.
The original EMT®️ 140 was breakthrough technology: the world’s first plate reverb. Brighter and more versatile than the spring reverbs and echo chambers that preceded it, this plate reverb unit became part of practically every top studio’s arsenal. It was a serious investment, costing as much as a house, and weighing more than 3 people. TAL-Reverb 3 is designed to be used as a stereo plate plug-in, which is the replacement of its predecessor (TAL-Reverb-II). This new edition has several improvements such as an optimized GUI and some changes in the reverb algorithm. Additionally, TAL-Reverb 3 has a simple EQ section, a meter display and shows actual slider values. Size 525 KB This Plate Reverb effect is directly based on the Plate Reverb described in Jon Datorro’s “Effect Design” paper (part 1). Again the GUI is based on a GUI mock-up by thcilnnahoj.

I am very sure you have heard or use a reverb effect multiple times in your music projects, and if you haven’t used it in your projects, you’ve come across it on most occasions, but you aren’t aware it’s a reverb.
Before we dive into the best free reverb vst plugin, let me briefly explain what a reverb effect does, you can skip this section if you aren’t new to reverb effects.
Reverb is the simulation of the sound of space. This space could be your bathroom, a small room, concert hall, chamber and so on. For example, the sound is different when you clap in the bathroom vs when you clap in a concert hall and this is because the spaces and the reflections build-up are different in each room, the larger the room the greater or wider the reverb, the smaller the room, the lesser the reverb.
Why Use Reverb Effects?
You’ll mostly find reverb effects in every music producer toolbox, and can be used to create all sorts of effects but it can easily be misused too, basically reverb effects can be used to…
- To create depth in a mix; pushing elements further back in a mix
- To glue elements within a track together
- To create a simulation of the sound of space, e,g creating a concert hall like special effect within a track and
- so on…
Flute vst fl studio free. Since we know the importance of using reverb, I would be recommending some of the best free reverb effects plugins in the music production scene right now.
Note: Here are the best paid reverb effects
Let’s get cracking…
1.) Smart Electronix – Ambience
A friend recommended Ambience to me a few years back, and the moment I tested it, I was literally blown away.
One of my favorite features of Ambience is the hold parameter which smartly freezes the reverb tail until the button is released or you can think of it like freezing the reverb effect in a suspended state.
You can use this for creating a reverse reverb effect, special effect and you can even automate the knobs.
The ambience is a donationware plugin. You get a nag screen with no limitation, and if you love the plugin, you can donate to the developer.’
Download: Win 32 VST / Mac OSX VST
2.) Impulse Record – Convology XT
A free convolution reverb from Impulse record, in case, you aren’t aware, convolution reverb uses software profiles to digitally simulate the reverberation of space, and uses a pre-recorded audio sample of the impulse response of the space being modeled.
This is exactly how Convology XT works, the impulse-response recording is stored in a digital audio signal processing system, and then convolved with the incoming audio signal to be processed.
Convology XT comes with a free 70 Vintage Reverb Impulse Response Files. If you so wish, you can also purchase more impulse responses from the Convology XT library, other than that, it is absolutely free with no nag.
Also, it features an intuitive interface to browse through the libraries, allows you to quickly test run presets and audition on the fly while the music is playing.
I didn’t mention it supports both WAV and AIF files right, well, now you know. I don’t know if you’ve ever imagined using stretch (long reverb) when using a reverb plugin, Convology XT doesn’t only include Stretch, you also have an option for decay time scaling, EQ, frequency-dependent decay time scaling, time reverse, and amplitude envelope.
Requirements:
- Windows 7 and later; VST2 / VST3 / AAX
- Mac OS 10.7.x and later; AU / VST2 / VST3 / AAX
Download: Convology XT
3.) EpicMStudios – Dimension +
Dimension + is a really super simple plugin that simulates sound reverberation in variable size spaces.
It features three controls:
Spring Reverb Vst Free
- Direction: Direction of the audio source
- Room Size: Alters how large the simulated space is.
- Dry/Wet: Alters how much of the effect is present in the mix.
Download: Dimension Plus
4.) Synthescience – Feezechamber
The Freexechamber is a free reverb plugin by Synthescience for simple reverb effects.
I sometimes use this in place of Ambience plugin if I want to play with the Freeze switch, the switch enables the user at any moment (while the Verb is processing) to Hold the process into a suspended state.

- Up to 192 kHz sample rates supported
- Set of factory presets.
- Hardware-like GUI.
- Advanced PPM/VU/GR meters.
Note: Supports only Win 32; VST
Download: Modern Spacer
6.) Anwida Soft – DX Reverb Light
This is the light version of the original DX Reverb. The light version contains only one simplified algorithm of the 11 available algorithms in the full version, even with the limitation, DX Reverb Light can be handy for a quick reverb effect.
Download: Win 32 VST / Win 64 VST / Mac OSX VST / Mac AU
7.) Signaldust – Abstract Chamber
I don’t know if you ever notice undesirable reverb effect when used for longer reverb sounds, it sounds frustrating some times, with Abstract Chamber you can create a longer modulated reverbs whole also maintaining a natural yet abstract spatial impression.
It only supports VST

9.) Voxengo – OldSkoolVerb
Voxengo plugins have been my best and ready to go plugin for my music production toolbox.
OldSkoolVerb emulates the classic stereo verb algorithm and produces a crystal clear spatial image that blends well with an audio file.
This reverb tool comes bundled with various sets of parameters permitting a user to achieve different reverb styles ranging from room reverb to hall reverb to plate reverb.
“The Voxengo OldSkoolVerb is best used for a non-percussive and soft-attack sound like vocals, piano and pad sounds”.

10.) U-he- Protoverb
Protoreverb aids as reverb research for u-he, and now, they are releasing it to the public for free. It is an experimental plugin that is based on a room simulator reverb.
According to u-he:
Most algorithmic reverbs try to avoid resonances or model the reflections of sound from a room’s walls. Protoverb does the opposite. It builds up as many room resonances as possible, modelling the body of air in the room. No need to modulate or colour the signal.
Requirements:
- Mac OS X 10.7 or higher
- Windows 7 or higher
- Linux
- Available as AU / VST2 / AAX (Pro Tools 10.3.7 or later) plug-ins with 32-bit and 64-bit versions.

It's that time of the year again (already, huh) when Soundtoys releases Little things that go a long way.
Available for free until November 22th is Little Plate, a plate reverb plugin based on the hefty EMT 140 plate reverb unit introduced in 1957 by Wilhelm Franz at Germany’s Elektro-Mess-Technik.
Best Plate Reverb ever Made
Even in 2017, the EMT 140 is still regarded as the best plate reverb ever made.
A few fun facts I came across today while digging for more information about this mythical verb machine:
The real thing still costs thousands (dollars, euros) today, if you manage to find one in reasonable condition.
There was an EMT 140 Plate Reverb for sale on reverb.com a few years ago for around 5000 Euros. I'm not sure whether it was actually sold or not.
The EMT 140 weighs hundreds of pounds, it's about the size of an upright piano without the keys.
It takes at least three people to carry and at least one chiropractor to realign their joints afterwards. Trigger gate free vst torrent.
The EMT 140 was virtually the only reverb that was used on Pink Floyd’s 'Dark Side of the Moon.'
Speaking of vibrating plates… In 1957, the year the EMT 140 plate was introduced, San Francisco got all shook up by an earthquake also known as the Daly City earthquake, on March 22nd. That's the same day Elvis’ “All Shook Up” was released as a single. Coincidence? I think not! ;)
Tons of Plates
Double hat tip to Soundtoys for making such a tasteful 32-second teaser for a new product.
You'd almost think wish something bigger is coming up. 'Revenge of the Plate Verbs' on Netflix, anyone?
The sounds are headphone-worthy:
To develop this plugin, Soundtoys obsessively collected five real EMT 140 units from around the United States, put them in the labs in Burlington, a city in northwestern Vermont, USA (best known for ski resorts, IBM employees, maple syrup, and Ben & Jerry's ice cream.)
After potentially breaking the bank, dislocating a few vertebrae, cleaning, tuning, testing, and coding, they ultimately ported the classic EMT 140 sound over to the digital realm.
In other words: tons of plate reverb (a single EMT 140 weighs 600 pounds) are now available in a Soundtoys plugin that weighs and costs nothing.
Little Plate will set you back $99 after November 22nd though.

Plugin Interface & Features
Meeting the needs of those of us tinkering daily with today's DAW's, Soundtoys too added a few useful features to the plugin that were not available on the original EMT 140 hardware unit:

Compared to the EMT 140's limited reverb decay time of around 6 seconds or so, Little Plate offers a broader range of reverb decay times, from half a second up to infinity - so that you can use it both for short ambience reverb effects and frozen reverbs. Check out the product page for audio examples.
Use the Modulation switch to subtly modulate the reverb's tail for a thicker sound on vocals, keys, guitars, and other instruments. Check out the product page for some examples.
Use the Low-Cut Filter to remove the build-up of low frequencies in the reverb to keep your mix clean and modern. The filter goes all the way to 20 kHz. That should be useful if you're into using plate verb on percussion.
Plate Reverb Tips & Tricks
In all fairness, you can't say 'EMT 140 plugin' without mentioning other third-party plugin developers, two of them being Universal Audio and Waves.
UA published an excellent page covering how and when to use plate reverb back in the summer of 2011.
The tips are still valid today.
To get you going, this quote:
Another cool option would be to use DAW automation to gradually increase the reverb level on the strings — often called a “reverb build” — in order to create a heightened sense of drama as the piece develops. This would be impossible to do with the hardware because of the mechanical noise, but with the plug-in version, continuous automation of decay time works perfectly.

The Abbey Road Reverb Technique
You can't say 'EMT 140' without mentioning the Abbey Road Reverb Technique either.
As plate reverbs are still widely used today, mostly on vocals I presume, you may want to learn more about this mix engineering trick if you haven't already.
Put simply, the Abbey Road Reverb trick involves rolling off everything below 600Hz and above 10kHz by using high- and low-pass filters placed before the reverb.
As demonstrated by mix engineer Dave Pensado in this video (there's a big bonus tip about 9 minutes in: watch Dave use a little tube saturation for extra plate lushness, it's subtle but brilliant):
